Course Details
How far in advance should I arrive at the test center before my test?
GMAT Coach recommends that you arrive at the test center at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start of your exam. If you are at all uncertain of your commute time or the parking situation, plan to arrive earlier in order to reduce your stress on test day. A dry run earlier in the week is even better!
Including class and homework, how much time per week should I spend studying?
The GMAT Coach recommends that you dedicate at least three hours per lesson outside of class. Thus, if your class meets twice per week, we recommend that you plan to spend at least six hours per week taking Pretests and Retests, working through Practice Problems, reading and watching Core Content, attending Office Hours, etc.
If my schedule changes, can I switch sections?
Yes - with no trouble or cost. To switch sections, simply go to your Account page using the link in the upper right hand corner of your student homepage and select the section that meets your needs. Your student calendar will reflect all of the schedule changes automatically.
Can I sign up for a section that is already in progress?
Yes, you can sign up for a section that is already in progress. To do so, simply sign up as usual and select the section from the list. You cannot sign up for a section for which the final lesson has already been taught. Remember, you must take the diagnostic before accessing any content aside from Lesson 1 to qualify for the money-back guarantee.
How long does each session last?
Each GMAT session is approximately three hours in length. Plan to show up a little early or stay a little late if you have any questions for your teaching team.
What should I do to prepare for class?
Before you go to class, make sure to have completed the homework from the previous session and the Pretests for the upcoming session. You'll also want to check out the items in your Upcoming Concepts list to brush up on the fundamentals of the material that will be covered in class.
If I have a question, how can I contact a teacher?
Teachers and TAs are available every day of the week to answer all of your questions, simply send an email us help@thegmatcoach.com. Every week we will also choose several student questions to go over during our live Office Hours.
How long before my actual GMAT should I sign up with you?
GMAT Coach suggests that you start studying about 3-6 months before you plan to take the exam. Because GMAT Coach gives you a one-year membership, you have the flexibility to enroll early and/or extend your study time beyond your class. We find that the ideal time to take the test is 2-4 weeks after the end of your class, but that's just an average -- we'll be happy to talk to you later in your course about your progress and your ideal timing.
Can I cancel my score after taking the GMAT?
Yes. Immediately after finishing the test you will have the option to cancel your score. The GMAT Coach recommends that you do not cancel your score unless you are absolutely certain that you significantly underperformed on the test because of a specific situation (sickness, disturbance during the test, etc.). Many students are surprised to see how well they scored on the test. Remember that the questions get much more difficult as you start to do well on the test, so hitting lots of challenging questions is probably a good sign.
How often can I take the test?
You can take the test up to 5 times in a twelve-month period, though not more than once in a 30-day period. Schools generally are wary when the test is taken more than two or three times, so it's best to prepare yourself to take the test once and ace it!
When should I take the GMAT?
The best time to take the GMAT is when you have the time to prepare and hit your peak. Because a GMAT score is valid for up to five years, you should take the test when you feel you have adequate time to study, even if you may not be applying for several years. It's always beneficial to have your score ready well in advance so that you can apply early in the admissions cycle.
When should I take the GMAT?
Your GMAT score is the single most important way to signal to business schools how prepared you are for the academic rigors of an MBA program. The GMAT has proven to be a consistently reliable predictor of academic success in graduate business school.
What does my GMAT score mean?
Your GMAT score is the single most important way to signal to business schools how prepared you are for the academic rigors of an MBA program. The GMAT has proven to be a consistently reliable predictor of academic success in graduate business school.
A common axiom in business school admissions is that a high GMAT score will never be the sole factor that gets you into your school of your choice, but a low score can keep you out. Admissions officers tend to look for a well-rounded applicant, so students who score highly on both the verbal and quantitative portions of the GMAT have a distinct advantage.
Keep in mind, the GMAT is not an aptitude test. Those who become comfortable with the format of the GMAT in advance and master effective strategies before test day, have a distinct advantage over those who take the test cold.
